EXAM PREP - X-Ray

Lower GI (Barium Enema):
You must obtain a Fleets Prep Kit #2 and follow the instructions for the 24-hour prep.

Upper GI/Small Bowel:
Do not eat or drink anything 8 hours before examination. You should also not smoke for 8 hours before exam.
* Exception: Some oral medications are ok to take with a sip of water. Contact us if you have question about your medications
** If you are having a small bowel exam please be aware that it can take several hours.

IVPs:
- Have a regular breakfast
- Drink four(4) 8oz. glasses of water in the morning of the day prior to your exam.
- At around noon, drink 10oz. Of Magnesium citrate.
- Eat a light lunch.
- Drink four(4) 8oz. glasses of water during the afternoon.
- Evening meal: Have clear liquids only i.e., jello, bouillon broth, popsicles, fruit juices without pulp, coffee and tea.
No dairy products.
- Do not drink or take anything by mouth after midnight the night before the exam.
